Citrix GotoAssist Express Testdrive

I was wondering how easy it would be to setup Citrix’s Beta product called GotoAssist Express
well let’s give it a try…

First go the site: https://express.gotoassist.com en register using a valid email address.
Within seconds you’ll receive an activation email. Follow the link and create a password

Next, You’ll see that the website will initiate a download of the GotoAssist Express clientsoftware. (which didn’t take too long on our 2048 Kb line)

GotoAssist Express will install itself in C:\Program Files\Citrix\GoToAssist Express Expert and GoToMeeting (never thought I’d see that folder on my machine ever!)

After the download/install completes, the tool settles in the tray and asks for your registered email address with password.

The tool will then display a nice Vista-look-and-feel screen with a support key
Direct the person you are trying to help, to the site www.fastsupport.com and let the person enter the support key you have on your screen

The supported person will login and start the plug-in download..once this has been completed, the support session will start automatically.

Presto..! Delivering support on ICT-Freak’s computer within 2 minutes..or was it the other way around Arne?

For a complete list all the features this product provides, visit the blog site at: http://blog.gotoassist.com/ (remember this is a beta so features will be added or dropped!)
One thing I would like to show you guys is the diagnostics report:

This report provides great insight on what is happening on the supported computer:
System summary, installed applications, running processes, services etc etc..it’s simply amazing stuff Jim!!!

To recap: Even though it’s only a beta, Citrix is really on course to making remote support really as easy as claimed on their site. I really like the feature set Citrix has provided and most important of all: The supported person can easily install the client software where other free-remote-support-software, requires a whole lot more knowledge from the user who is receiving the help.
I really hope this amazing service can stay free so I won’t have to drive to “put your name here“‘s house every now and then to clean up the mess and also our helpdesk can support that one user once in a while which is unable to work from home.

Thanks to Arne for helping out and hosting the screenshots for now..
If my ad’s bring in enough revenue, I can finally host this site to provide you with better speed and uptimes so…

If this post helped you out, help me out keeping this site alive and visit some of my sponsers on the left or right..
Thanks..!
