App-v 4.5.x issues and errors gathered

new_logo_sftI’ve been toying with App-V (Softgrid) 4.5 for the first time this weekend. I’m using this post to collect errors/issues I encountered during the installation and use of the product.

—————————————-
Application Virtualization Error
—————————————-
The Application Virtualization Client could not update publishing information from the server lab-vas01.

The server could not authorize you to access the requested data. Report the following error code to your System Administrator.

Error code: 450519-16906304-00000917
SOLUTION:
Check the following KB Article
Addition to the KB:
I’ve also seen this error on a workstation with the App-V client that was NOT logged into the domain.

Application Virtualization Error
—————————————–
The Application Virtualization Client could not launch Application abc
v. xyz.

The operation failed because you do not have sufficient permissions to stream from a file. Report the following error code to your System Administrator.

Error code: 450519-14901D04-0000180B
SOLUTION:
None were to be found on the Microsoft Support site.
Haven’t dug into the how or why but it seems that setting the HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\SoftGrid\4.5\Client\Configuration\AllowIndependentFileStreaming value from 0 to 1 enables streaming from files again. (Thanks to Tim Jacobs blog)
Short path variable names in OSD files can cause errors
If you receive error 450478-1F702339-0000010B “The directory name is invalid” when starting a virtual application on the client, it is possible that the variable in the OSD is set incorrectly.
This can happen if the application’s installer sets a short path name during sequencing.

WORKAROUND
Remove the trailing tilde from any CSIDL variable that exists in the OSD file
