Who is WISPTIS en why is it running on my TS?

I saw this process WISPTIS.exe kept popping up on my TS from time to time and wondered what this thing was doing on my server.
It turns out that this process is officially used as the “pen input device tool for the Microsoft Tablet PC Platform”.
Since I’m not sticking a pen in the behind of my Terminal Server, this process must also be activated by something else.
In my situation it turned out to be the MS Office Imaging component that triggered this process. Adobe Reader and some other programs are also known culprits.
So how to get rid of this thing? You can use the following options:
1) Rename WISPTIS.exe to something else and put a 0 byte WISPTIS.exe file in its place
2) Use your GPO to add a additional rule to your software restriction policy as a disallowed process
3) Unregister the exe. Instructions can be found here.
I used option 2 that has worked well for me up to now and also no complaints from users so far.

Even though the process only takes about 4-6 MB, if you multiply that times the number of users on a server you might see that the juice is worth the squeeze!
