Powerfuse 2008 migration day 2

Had a mixed night’s sleep after yesterdays troublesome migration. So today we are going to give it another shot. I received email from RES support with some troubleshooting steps and tips which should be enough to get this thing done

07:45 got in, took some tea and printed the RES email.
08:00 Created a new RES share on the network and copied the configuration DB ("%Program Files%\Res PowerFuse\data\dbcache\current”) from 1 TS into that share and pointed the TS to that share. It is now recognized as a Foxpro DB.
Next step is to migrate this DB to a new Oracle DB which in turn we will upgrade to Version 8 then.
08:30 Waiting for Oracle DBA to come in…
09:00 DBA Guy finishing up DB
09:10 RES Support calls to make sure I’m ok and need any assistance. (I really am blown away by RES Support..best support-desk hands down). We go over some scenario’s that might occur with the directory maintenance date/time stamp (beware of this!!!)
09:30 I copied the Modeldir and Modeldir2 folders from the RES current share to the RES new share by using:
xcopy x:\rescurrent\modeldir x:\resnew\modeldir /E /K to copy all attributes (hidden folder does not work unhide the folder and hide it after you copied it)
09:45 Migrated the new RES share (=foxpro) to a new clean Oracle database.

10:00 Upgraded the Powerfuse v7 with Powerpack2008 to the new version

10:30 Done..no errors this time..yippie!

11:00 Uninstalled Powerfuse v7 on another Terminal Server and reinstalled version 2008 on it…succes!
11:45 Calling RES support to share the happy news!
12:15 Some colleagues are logging on to the upgraded server to test the waters..
14:30 Creating some simple batch scripts so I can improve the installation speed for the rest of the servers tomorrow
15:15 Scripts are done…
16:00 I’m going to put most of my Production servers in the ADMIN only group so users won’t be able to logon tomorrow. About three servers will stay available for users that are working on Saturday (which should be enough).
16:20 Tired but fulfilled from today’s adventures I’m signing off for today..thanks for reading and hopefully I’ll see you guys tomorrow to finish the migration. (although I won’t blame you if decide that Monday will be your next visit to my blog ;—) )
