kb944984 sucks!…(memory)
I recently tested kb944984 (The user profile may not be correctly unloaded when you log off from a Windows Server 2003-based computer, and event 1517 is logged) to see if it would fix some hanging profiles we encountered on our Terminal Server farm…
After installing the hotfix on 2 of my servers something weird started happening..my Terminal Servers started leaking…bad!
Behold! Available memory on a Terminal Server without the kb944984
On the 2 servers with the hotfix, the available memory started to look like this:
I did not have the time to further investigate, I removed the fix and the memory usage when back to normal on both servers. I’m beginning to see why Microsoft still hasn’t released SP3 for Windows 2003 up to this point. This is one of those fixes that will cripple your environment and you won’t even notice it until you have a fully loaded server. If Microsoft does release SP3 in its current state I can only imaging the horror that it will cause..have a good weekend everybody!
